Fascia is a band or sheet of connective tissue beneath our skin that wraps around, stabilizes and separates muscles and internal organs, like a tight sweater that keeps everything in place. Fascia is flexible, Velcro-like and tends to take on a wavy pattern. Like a sweater in the washing machine that comes out rumpled and needs to be laid out flat & reshaped. The "tightness" or "knots" we feel in our bodies can be reshaped & straightened out using a foam roller. Lymphatic massage is a gentle technique that stimulates the flow of lymph, a fluid that carries cellular waste out of the body. We'll use light pressure "skin stretching" and rhythmic movements on specific areas of our body, such as the head, neck, armpits, groin, and limbs. Benefits include a reduction in swelling, inflammation, fatigue, stress and pain relief. It promotes healing, improved immunity, enhanced circulation and wellbeing. Like other types of massage, it is generally done with skin-to-skin contact. Wearing a tank top and shorts will make this self-massage more effective.
